WHEELING, W.Va. – CentreTown Fitness, a health service of Ohio Valley Medical Center and East Ohio Regional Hospital, in partnership with the Ohio Valley Runners’ Walkers’ Club is proud to present the 2012 CentreTown Fitness 5K Walk or Run on Saturday, October 20 at 9 a.m.

“The CentreTown Fitness 5K Run or Walk is being held by the Ohio Valley Runners’ Walkers’ Club to promote the physical benefits and social enjoyment of a competitive 5K race run or walk,” said George Frazier, general manger of CentreTown Fitness. “Many people can be intimidated by a road race setting, but this 5K event is a great opportunity for individuals to get active and enjoy exercising with their friends, family, and neighbors from across the area.”

Participants can pick up a registration form from CentreTown Fitness on Chapline Street in Wheeling and sign up for the run or walk. The pre-registration cost for all race participants is $20 and $25 on the day of the race. Registration forms and payment may be sent to: CentreTown Fitness Center, 20th & Chapline Streets, Suite 300, Wheeling, WV 26003.

All ages are welcome to participate in the 5K run or walk and awards will be presented to the top five overall male and female runners, top ten male and female walkers, the first CentreTown member male and female run and walk, and new this year – the top three finishers in each age group of the run division. The race begins at the bike trail at 17th and Wood Streets traveling through downtown Wheeling and finishing near the parking lot of the Steelworks Federal Credit Union on 20th Street.

“The course this year is very scenic and challenging and includes a variety of road surfaces including asphalt, gravel and even cinders in some areas,” said Frazier. “Each year we have a very positive turn out and we are looking forward to hosting a great crowd of participants again this year.”

CentreTown Fitness will host an open house after race conclusion and showers, whirlpool and sauna will be available post-race for participants. The first 200 race entrants will receive a long-sleeve race shirt. Packet pick-up and registration will be available on Friday, October 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
