OVMC Radiology Students Win Awards

Ohio Valley Medical Center Program of Radiology senior students received awards at the 60th annual West Virginia Society of Radiologic Technologist Annual Conference held Nov. 8th thru the 10th held at Stonewall Jackson in Roanoke, WV.

Students representing 8 programs across the state including, Bluefield State, Ohio Valley Medical Center, Southern WV Community and Technical College, St. Mary’s Medical Center/Marshall University, United Hospital Center, University of Charleston, West Virginia Community College and West Virginia University Hospital, participated in the student bowl, scientific research paper, scientific exhibit and mock national certification examination competitions.

Of the 16 teams composed of 48 students, OVMC students, Jessica Astle, Amanda Klug, and Casey Martin earned first place honors. In the scientific exhibit competition in which 62 students participated, Miranda Schilling, Jenna Carpenter and Casey Martin were awarded first, second and third place, respectively. 40 students participated in the scientific research paper competition and Jenna Carpenter brought home the second place award. Casey Martin earned the top score in the mock certification examination. The students’ awards attest to the program’s standard of excellence, as demonstrated through the competition against programs sponsored by universities, colleges and hospital systems from across the state.

“The faculty and imaging professionals are extremely proud of each of our students”, said Catherine Ball, program director. “The success of our students speaks highly of our program and the dedication of the technologists in OVMC and EORH’s imaging departments. Ensuring high quality patient care for each patient undergoing an imaging procedure is the basis of our program and drives our students to excel”.
