Robert C. Byrd Center Announces the Addition of a New Child Psychiatrist

 Michael Caruso, president and chief executive officer of Ohio Valley Health Services and Education Corporation, is pleased to announce Jill Bradshaw, M.D. of child and adolescent psychiatry will now be serving inpatients at the Robert C. Byrd Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Center.

As the Ohio Valley’s only area hospital­based inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric and behavioral health facility, Dr. Jill Bradshaw says she’s very pleased to be a part of serving the youth of the Ohio Valley. “I’m very excited to be joining the staff at the Robert C. Byrd Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Center. The state­of­the­art, inpatient facility is a huge asset to our community, especially our children.” Dr. Bradshaw continued saying, “Having grown up here in the Ohio Valley and recently moving back to raise my own family, I’m excited as to what this new partnership holds with Ohio Valley Medical Center and helping children in mental health.”

Robert C. Byrd Center’s board­certified staff is dedicated to meeting the unique needs of youth that require inpatient psychiatric care. This state ­of the­art 30­bed facility provides patients with the newest in treatment programming. At the Robert C. Byrd Center, children will engage in individual sessions, family meetings, and cognitive group therapy.

"We are most fortunate to have Dr. Bradshaw as our Board Certified Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, “ said John Antal, Director of Clinical Services at the Robert C. Byrd Center . “We will now be able to admit children as young as five years old to our facility. We can again serve our youth and families of the Ohio Valley by providing therapeutic interventions in a state­of­the­art setting".

Child and adolescent admission criteria include, suicidal or homicidal thoughts or attempts, self­harm or harm to others, drastic behavior changes, hallucinations or delusions, and severe mood swings.

While in the center, the youth will be involved in music, art, exercise, and recreation therapies, with activity therapists. Patients will engage in goals group, social skills group, nursing education groups, etc. They will have access to indoor and outdoor recreation areas, catered food services, nutritional counseling, case management, and medication management. Upon discharge, appointments are scheduled for outpatient therapy, medication management, and educational services.
