OPALs Trip History, The Arts, and A Cruise on a Sternwheeler

Monday, August 06, 2018

The OPALs (Older People With Active Lifestyles) are heading out for another great bus trip on Friday, September 21. Included in the fun-filled day will stop at the John Glenn Museum, lunch at “The Timbers Restaurant” at beautiful Salt Fork State Park, Alan Cottrill Sculpture Museum in Zanesville and a leisurely ride on the Lorena Sternwheeler.

A highlight for many will be the first stop at Astronaut/Senator John Glenn’s boyhood home that has been restored as it was when he lived there until his enlistment during World War II. All will be captivated by the Living History presentation. The OPALs group will then head to Salt Fork State Park to enjoy a delicious lunch in the Timber’s Restaurant. This dramatic space with high ceilings, rustic ambiance and historic murals provides a wonderful view of Salt Fork Lake.

The coach will make its next stop at the Alan Cottrill Sculpture Museum. Known as the hidden gem of Zanesville, all will be delighted by the parade of bronze sculptures. From the sheep being chased by a bear to the "Old Mushroom Hunter", to Brutus Buckeye guarding the door, there are sculptures in the hundreds waiting for you. The OPALs will then step back in time and enjoy a leisurely one hour cruise on the Lorena Sternwheeler followed by a cool stop at Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl. Tom’s has been a proud Zanesville tradition for more than 50 years.

The cost of this fabulous trip is $147 and includes motor coach, lunch, admission to all events, ice cream treat, taxes, and gratuities. To make your reservation, please call the OPALs travel partner, Uniglobe at 304-232-5171 or 1-800-825-7314. Your reservation and final payment are due August 24.
