Radiology Program Earns Maximum Accreditation by the JRCERTTuesday, November 20, 2018
Ohio Valley Medical Center’s Radiologic Technology Program has been granted an eight-year accreditation by The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), which is the maximum duration that may be awarded by JRCERT in this category.
The JRCERT is the only agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) for the accreditation of traditional and distance delivery educational programs in radiography, radiation therapy, magnetic resonance, and medical dosimetry. Specialized accreditation awarded by the JRCERT offers institutions significant value by providing peer evaluation and by assuring the public of quality professional education in the radiologic sciences.
“To become accredited, each program must complete rigorous documentation regarding each of the six standards set forth by the JRCERT.,” said Stephanie Stauver, Radiology Program Director. “Each standard has a subset of objectives, all of which relate to integrity, student resources, curriculum and academic practice, student health and safety, ongoing assessment and programmatic data. The standards are designed to ensure that each program is operating effectively and efficiently while preparing students for the National Board Registry Exam upon program completion. Upon re-accreditation evaluation, the program was visited by JRCERT officials in April 2018 to meet with faculty and students and to be sure that documents and policies were up-to-date and in compliance. JRCERT accreditation verifies that the program is upholding a threshold of academic quality and maintains the keys of higher education. The main objective is to meet the student outcomes and goals, which will, in turn, provide each student with the patient care and knowledge of medical imaging for his/her career."
The Radiologic Technology Program is owned and operated by OVMC but students rotate through East Ohio Regional Hospital, East Ohio Regional Hospital Outpatient Center - St. Clairsville, WVU Medicine - Reynolds Memorial Hospital, and Wood Healthcare Clinic during the course of the program.
