Michael J. Caruso, president and chief executive officer of Ohio Valley Health Services & Education Corporation, parent company of Ohio Valley Medical Center and East Ohio Regional Hospital, has recently announced the addition of George V. Jirak, MD, MBA and Staci L. Trudo, BSN, RN to the organizations’ senior leadership and executive team.

Dr. George V. Jirak will assume the role of Medical Director for the Ohio Valley Medical Group, formerly the hospitals’ physician practice division. The Ohio Valley Medical Group is a growing, multi-specialty practice of over 24 physicians who provide primary and specialty care at practice locations across the Ohio Valley. Through its affiliation with Ohio Valley Health Services & Education Corporation, Ohio Valley Medical Group physicians are part of the Ohio Valley Medical Center and East Ohio Regional Hospital family, recognized for providing state-of-the-art family-centered quality health care, and promoting education and wellness.

“We understand the importance engaging our physicians in the operations and activities of our hospital organization and we are thrilled that Dr. Jirak has accepted the opportunity to work with us as we continue to adapt our hospital services to meet the needs of our patients in the ever-changing world of healthcare,” said Michael J. Caruso, president and chief executive officer of OVHS&E. “We’re proud that Dr. Jirak has been a longtime member of our physician team and are ready to utilize his experience and expertise in this role as we continue to serve the Ohio Valley.”

As medical director of the Ohio Valley Medical Group, Dr. Jirak has already launched several initiatives to provide accessibility to health care to communities across the Ohio Valley including the creation of walk-in clinics at physician office locations, as well as engaging medical group physicians in a way that encourages the sharing of best practices and treatment plans – creating better patient experiences and a more integrated health care culture.

“As physicians, our mission is to provide our patients with the highest quality of patient care available to them,” said Jirak. “With the development of the Ohio Valley Medical Group, we are able to take ownership of the care we provide as well as determine where we are headed and what we wish to be in the community. By working together, we are able to provide a comprehensive efficient and patient-centered care environment that ensures a positive healing experience for our patients.”

Jirak joined the Ohio Valley Health Services & Education Corporation team in 2001 and has provided gynecologic and urogynecologic services at the OVMC campus. He has held leadership roles with various physician organizations including president and chief executive officer of a 120-physician independent practice association prior to relocating to the Wheeling area.

Staci L. Trudo, BSN, RN has been named vice president, chief quality officer for the organization, working with hospital and physician staff leadership to promote clinical excellence and safety in patient care, tracking patient outcomes and developing quality treatment planning. For the last 10 years, Trudo has been responsible for patient quality and performance improvement as well as overseeing the EMSTAR trauma program.

“As the emphasis on quality continues to grow in the healthcare industry, Staci has worked tirelessly with our staff to develop patient quality initiatives to continue building on the high level of care patients in our community have come to expect from OVMC and EORH,” said Caruso. “Her experience and knowledge of hospital quality issues at each of our campuses has helped to establish our organization’s focus on quality and safety that extends to every member of our healthcare team.”

As new regulations continue to trickle down through the health care industry, the quality of patient care outlined in quality indicators and patient satisfaction will impact hospitals’ reimbursement levels from federal healthcare programs as well as individualized insurances.

“As our team strives to continue providing the highest quality of care to our patients, our physicians and staff have been great partners in working together to develop tools that make it easier to deliver state-of-the-art care to our patients,” said Trudo. “We are constantly working to build a culture dedicated to improvement and support our patient care team in efforts to provide a safe, high-quality patient experience.”

Over the last four years, Trudo has been a part of the senior management team assuming executive responsibility for risk management, care management, social services, clinical documentation, accreditation services, and infection prevention throughout the organization.

Ohio Valley Medical Center, located in Wheeling West Virginia, and East Ohio Regional Hospital, located in Martins Ferry Ohio, are a 340 bed combined organization with over 1600 employees providing the only comprehensive acute and board certified emergency services on both sides of the Ohio River.
