Robert C. Byrd Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health Center Celebrates Grand Opening

Friday, January 11, 2013

Ohio Valley Medical Center is pleased to announce the opening of the Robert C. Byrd Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Center. The center is one of a few acute care centers within the state of West Virginia and the only facility in the immediate area that treats acute behavioral issues of children and adolescents.

“Having these services here will allow us to care for those children locally where parents and caregivers can participate in their child\'s treatment. We have provided these services at Ohio Valley Medical Center, but the increased number of beds will prevent children from being sent out of the area to receive treatment which inhibited family participation.” Rick Buckelew, Director of Behavioral Health Services for OVHS&E.

John Antal, Director of Adolescent/Clinical Services states “Untreated depression is the number one cause of suicide, which is the third leading cause of death among young people. Our facility can provide the healing that youth need with the combination of psychiatric intervention, psychotherapy, recreational activities, and educational services.”

The Robert C. Byrd Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Center provides a unique opportunity for area youth and their families to benefit from such state-of-the-art services.

After the ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30 am on Thursday, January 10th, public tours will be provided for anyone who would like to see this state of the art facility. Tours will be available from 10 am – 4 pm.
