Renowned Physicians to Speak at OVMC's Pink Power Night

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, OVMC will host the second anniversary to its Pink Power Night on Oct. 7th at which renowned oncologists from The James Cancer Center at Ohio State University will speak to local cancer survivors, patients, and community members about breast cancer awareness and approaches to treatment.

Pink Power Night is a monthly, community-based expo event designed to celebrate women in the Ohio Valley by offering a night for women with a social aspect and a healthy lifestyle education portion.

“Each month, we focus on a way for women to live healthy, happy lives,” said Laurie Labishak, vice president of marketing at OVMC and East Ohio Regional Hospital. “Women make 80 percent of the healthcare decisions in their households, and most women put the needs of others before themselves. We want women to know we care about them and want to arm them with the knowledge to stay healthy.”

At the event, Dr. Ewa Mrozek, a board-certified medical oncologist from The James Cancer Center, will speak to local women about breast cancer treatment in older women. Mrozek is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Society of Clinical Oncology and has extensive experience as a physician and medical educator regarding internal medicine and medical oncology.

Also joining Mrozek in speaking is Dr. Phuong Nguyen, a radiation oncologist who recently joined OVMC’s oncology team and is from The Ohio State University School of Medicine where she completed her residency in radiation oncology. She is a graduate of Stanford University School of Medicine and has received numerous awards and honors throughout her medical career.

“We welcome Dr. Mrozek and Dr. Nguyen to our second anniversary of Pink Power Night in the Ohio Valley,” said Michael Caruso, president and CEO of Ohio Valley Health Services and Education Corp. “We encourage the community to meet Dr. Nguyen who has enhanced our cancer care and the services provided to patients at The Cancer Center at OVMC. Both Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Mrozek aim to educate and inform community residents about breast cancer and the approaches to treating it.”

During the Oct. 7th event, a local woman will be honored with the Pink Angel Award for her efforts to promotes health and wellness to women in the Ohio Valley. The event is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wheeling Park’s White Palace. Attendance is $7 per person, and vendor tables for the expo are $15. Reservations can be made at or (304) 234-8233.
