Dr. Michael Myers, an orthopedic and sports orthopedic surgeon at Ohio Valley Medical Center and East Ohio Regional Hospital, has joined the Wheeling Nailers as the official team physician overseeing medical conditions that team members encounter during the remainder of the 2015 season.

Myers brings a significant background in athletics and orthopedic medicine to the Nailers hockey team as he completed his medical fellowship training with the Cincinnati Reds under the guidance of their team physician. With the Nailers, he will provide rink-side services at the hockey games for evaluation of injuries, as well as follow-up services at his office in St. Clairsville.

“I look forward to working with the Wheeling Nailers this year and to bringing my specialty in evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries as service to the team,” said Myers.

Wheeling Nailers chose Myers because of his proficiency in orthopedic medicine and his ability to educate players about preventing injuries as he is the only sports fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education in the Ohio Valley.

"We are very fortunate to have Dr. Myers as our team physician," said Nailers Head Coach Clark Donatelli. "He works extremely well with our players and training staff to ensure that our team receives the best care possible."

Myers joined the team of award-winning orthopedic physicians at OVMC and EORH in 2013. He specializes in sports-related injuries and arthroscopy and is a native of Moundsville.

As a continued supporter for the Wheeling Nailers, OVMC and EORH have been the official healthcare sponsors for the Wheeling Nailers since 2007. The hospitals provide all emergency room services, testing, and work-related rehabilitation for the team. In addition, team members have access to CentreTown Fitness at no charge.
