Power Up the Pink!

3rd Annual Pink Power Night is a success!

Wednesday, October 7, 2015

The OVMC Courtyard came alive on October 6th as hundreds of people gathered for the 3rd Annual Pink Power Night.  This year's event saw the addition of a light-up event called "Power Up the Pink",  where we illuminated the courtyard with brilliant pink twinkling lights.

More than 30 vendors were on hand in the Nurse's Residence to showcase everything from scented candles to fine jewelry.  Light refreshments, such as potato pancakes, pot stickers, pumpkin rolls, and hot apple cider were also available for the participants.

OVMC's Breast Cancer Ambassador, Kyla Morris, kicked off the presentation portion of the evening with a heartfelt speech detailing her journey through breast cancer, a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation.  Kyla is an Oncology Nurse Navigator at OVMC.  She was also the Grand Marshal for the Roughneck Motorcycle Club's Poker Run to benefit OVMC's Breast Cancer Program on September 19th. Group member, Harold Dombroski, presented a check for $8,000 to Marketing Director, Laurie Labishak, at Pink Power Night.  The money was raised through the poker run and the dinner/dance that followed.

The second portion of the program showcased five amazing Ohio Valley women who were nominated  for the Pink Angel Award.  The five nominees were chosen by the way a nominator described their community service, ability to empower women to live healthier lives, and their desire to make a difference in the lives of other women. Past recipients of the Pink Angel Award are Breezie Ogilbee and Jane Kessler.  The 2015 nominees were Nancy Toto, Peg Dolan, Margi Roberts, Mary Velez, and Kathy Blass.  The ballots were sent to the public and Kathy Blass was selected as the 2015 Pink Angel Award winner and was given a Pink Angel winged pendant, a hand-made ceramic rose, and an engraved snow globe.  Mrs. Glass delivered a humble and appreciative acceptance speech to the crowd.

The night was capped off with the grand "flip of the switch" as the courtyard was lit in a sea of pink honoring those who have been touched by breast cancer...Powering Up the Pink!

OVMC and EORH would like to thank everyone who came out for the event!
