Monday, July 26, 2010

Ohio Valley Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in ultrasound imaging following an on-site survey by the American College of Radiology. ACR awards accreditation to facilities that demonstrate achievement of high clinical practice standards after an evaluation by board-certified physicians.

"To receive and maintain our accreditation, ACR looks at every step that goes in to producing an ultrasound image," said Vicki Novick, director of radiology at OVMC. "Our ACR accreditations are voluntary and demonstrate our department's continuing commitment to quality patient care."

The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of the facility equipment.

"Obtaining accreditation gives patients and their referring physicians a high level of confidence that they are receiving the highest quality images with which to make an accurate medical diagnosis," said Jan Jennings, interim president and CEO at OVMC. "We are proud to have the staff and support team to offer the Ohio Valley the best."

Ohio Valley Medical Center, located in Wheeling West Virginia, and East Ohio Regional Hospital, located in Martins Ferry Ohio, are a 340 bed combined organization with over 1800 employees providing quality primary and tertiary healthcare to the Ohio Valley.
