CentreTown Fitness, a health service of Ohio Valley Medical Center and East Ohio Regional Hospital, has announced plans for the 2012 David Slaysman Memorial Tennis Championships on Wednesday, May 30 through Tuesday, June 5 at the Wheeling Park High School Tennis Complex. The annually sponsored event supports a Wheeling-area high school student scholarship fund for the Young Life summer camp program.
“We’re excited to once again sponsor this tennis tournament and give the Ohio Valley an additional opportunity to provide support for high school students participating in Young Life in our community,” said George Frazier, general manager of CentreTown Fitness. “The Slaysman tournament has always been a fun filled event for all involved and we’re excited for this year’s outing.”
The annual tournament is dedicated to the memory of David Slaysman, a Wheeling Park High School student, athlete and Young Life participant, who was killed in an automobile accident in March 2000. Area students involved in the Young Life program will be volunteering at the outing, keeping score and ball control for each match. Team fees to enter the tournament are $20 for the first event and $10 for the second event.
Start times for the Monday-Friday matches are 3:30pm, 5:00pm, 6:30pm and 8:00pm. Wheeling Park High School’s tennis complex has four outdoor courts with lights. Parking is available in the lower lots by the courts.
